LANTERN HOUSE
Lantern House finds its balance between seemingly contradictory aspects of its location, be they outlook and exposure, openness and privacy, solid and permeable, inside and outside and even the play of horizontal and vertical.
The presentation to the street offers options to open up and completely close off views with vertical and horizontal louvres, offering privacy to the spaces behind them. Whereas the presentation to the rear is as open as possible with full width terraces engineered without interrupting columns to take advantage of the expansive skyline views.

From the street the composition is a balance between a vertical element on the left and a strongly horizontal one on the right. The horizontal element has vertical louvres and vice versa, so the two elements complement each other and play off one another, creating a kind of symmetry without mirroring and repetition. The various louvres also articulate the facade in an always shifting dialogue between opening and closing.

The central entry space with clerestory roof over the sculptural floating stone stair connects and brings light to the middle point of all 3 levels.
The design is tailored to the owner's specific family and lifestyle, offering open as well as more private spaces, and seeking a harmony in all aspects of its purpose, as well as in relation to its context.
